America's Next Top Modest Model...

AKA (new beginnings)
this years new beginnings program was so much fun. we didn't have any new beehives :( but we had a lot of fun elaborating on the personal progress program and values for the parents through a fashion show. the program was modeled after Tyra Banks' America's Next Top Model. it will be hard to top in future years!

to prepare for the fashion show we had to have a fashion shoot. we headed to fashion place mall giving the girls a challenge... they had to find modest apparel in their favorite stores. we ended in Nordstroms with all of us trying on shoes. Such a blast!

1. Modest Criteria:

Shorts knee length
Shirts covering the shoulder
shirts must be long enough not to show any midriff
shirts must be modest on the top, not revealing
clothing is not tight fitting
pants do not contain multiple tear, rips, or holes
(i was surprised when one girl asked me what modest meant)

We also made shirts. We had the girls bring a plain colored shirt, made roses out of our left over fabric, and hot glue gunned them onto the shirts. The girls wore their shirts for the fashion show.
Kind of like this, but with different kinds of fabric

The night before we had the girls help set up and run through a dress rehearsal. (smart plan)

the girls wanted to serve cinnamon rolls and Laura brought mini keishes

balloons the color of each value

Our host "Tyra". laura snow is the personal progress leader and was in charge of this shindig. as you can see it was amazing and the girls felt like super stars. she went to a lot of work with the power point presentation, clever thoughts for each value, sponsors (modest dress commercial)
the judges (we look very happy to be there)

Emilee on the right is the 2nd counselor. she took on the character of "beehive" for the evening. you would never know she is pregnant with twins. she looks fantastic!

Our first judge is Beehive. Beehive first joined the Young Women Organization when she turned 12 after graduating from Primary. She wears the beehive as a symbol of harmony, cooperation, and work for the early pioneers of the Church. As a Beehive, the girls learn to work together in cooperation and harmony as they strengthen their faith in Jesus Christ and prepare to stand for truth and righteousness.

Bo or "Mia maid" is the 1st counselor. she did an amazing job with the decorations.

Our next judge for this evening is Mia Maid. She became a Mia Maid when she turned 14 years old. You will notice that she is wearing a rose on her jacket. This is a symbol of her love, faith, and purity to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. She hopes that all Young Women and those in attendance tonight will strive to:

1. Strengthen their testimony of Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ .

2. Accept and act upon the Young Women values.

3. Learn to love others, to have faith, and understand the importance of maintaining purity throughout their lives.

i was "Laurel" for the evening. i learned about the laurel wreath while preparing for this event and handcrafted my very own.

Our final judge is Laurel. She became a Laurel when she turned 16. This is her final stage in the Young Women organization. Laurel is wearing the “Laurel wreath” which is a symbol for someone who has finished a significant achievement and resembles honor and accomplishment. Notice also that Laurel is wearing white. Laurel has spent her time in Young Women’s learning a growing and is finishing her preparation to make and keep sacred covenants and receive the ordinances of the temple.

As the YW walked the runway and posed we had a power point slide projected with a short description about each value.
Introducing Faith. Faith is interested in praying, reading her scriptures, and doing activities that test and improve her faith in her everyday life. She faces challenges with courage and trust in her Heavenly Father. Faith loves the color white because it reminds her to keep herself clean and pure. Her favorite hymn is “True to the Faith” which she sings every morning in the shower. Faith knows that she is a Daughter of God and puts her trust in His plan and in her Savior, Jesus Christ.
(Divine Nature's blue balloon popped before it made the runway)
Welcome Divine Nature. Divine Natures enjoys developing new talents, being patient and gaining knowledge on a daily basis. She turns to her Heavenly Father for help in developing her divine qualities. Divine Nature enjoys spending time with her mother and grandmother learning new skills that will help her in her future role as a wife and mother. She understands and appreciates the divine feminine qualities that come with being a Daughter of God.

Individual Worth looks beautiful in Red tonight, not to mention it’s her favorite color. She understands that as a Young Woman she is of infinite worth with her very own divine mission, which she strives to fulfill on a daily basis. She hopes to go on a mission when she turns 21 in order to share the message of the gospel and share on of her favorite scriptures found in D&C 18:10 which states, “Remember the worth of souls is great in the sight of God.”

Knowledge is excited to be a part of tonight’s event as she is continually seeking for opportunities to learn and grow. She understands the importance of getting a good education, completing her homework each night and plans on attending college after high school graduation. She loves reading the scriptures daily and enjoys working on her personal progress with her mom and leaders. Knowledge continues to grow daily because of her commitment to her Heavenly Father and her desire to follow his plan for her.

Welcome to the floor Choice & Accountability. We call her C & A for short. She is bright and her favorite color is orange. C & A is interested in making wise decisions. Everyday she has to make choices and holds her self accountable for the decisions she makes. Some of her activities include choosing good friends, being kind to others and getting up on time. She also makes good choices on the clothes she chooses to wear, like tonights modest outfit.

Good Works is glowing in yellow tonight. Good Works is interested in serving her family, friends and neighbors. Some of her activities include helping her family prepare meals, babysitting her younger siblings, helping her elderly neighbor walk across the street and being a good friend to those in need. Good Works loves the wonderful feeling she gets from serving others and knows that when she is serving others, she is serving God. Good Works is excited for the many opportunities she will have to serve this year!

Meet integrity! She is a courageous girl who always makes her actions consistent with what she knows about right and wrong. She lives by our beliefs and standards. She has strengths in and excels as she makes good choices with dress, behavior, and conversation with others as well as literature, movies, television, internet, music, cell phones, and other types of media she takes part in. She does her best to avoid gossip, bad jokes, swearing and profanity. She is completely truthful, morally clean, honest, dependable, and trustworthy. Look at her shine!!

Introducing virtue! Her thoughts and actions are based on high moral standards. She knows the meaning and importance of chastity and virtue and is committed to be clean. Because she is virtuous at all times and in all things and in all places, she is qualified for the constant companionship of the Holy Ghost. She is well on her way as she is preparing to enter the holy temple. Isn't she amazing and beautiful!!

the models awaiting the winner which of course was ALL of the values

one of our "sponsors", Bishop Adams, gave a wonderful talk on modesty to close the evening. our cute camp leaders came out to support and my sweet mom took the pictures. loved it!
